The year of the RV

The year of the RV

Have you heard? 2020 it is the year of the RV. After all, having a camper is the ultimate in social distance vacationing. If I haven’t mentioned it I am the parent of two young boys. Boys that love dirt and the outdoors. I too love some outdoor, off the beaten path, time to recharge adventures. However, I also live in Florida. It is hot. Like, camping here is really hot!

Why Become an SLP?

I was recently asked by a college freshman to complete a survey about my life as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). I realized how incredibly lucky I am to have a career as an SLP. I found my dream career right out of the gate. How many graduates can say the same? There are so many students entering university without a clue about what to do or where to start. It can be a daunting process. I can’t recommend a career as a Speech-Language Pathologist more! It is so rewarding and offers so much flexibility. Although most of our followers are already SLPs, I hope that sharing this survey might help an #SLP2BE out there.

With a name like BeachieSpeechies you had you know we would have some beach appreciation posts.

Bjorem Speech Sound Cues Review

Bjorem Speech Sound Cues Review

You might realize by now that Jen and I share a love for targeting language and literacy in our therapy sessions! I wanted to share my favorite new tool that I use to target speech, language, and literacy- the Bjorem Speech Sound Cues . I am not joking when I say I use these cards EVERY SINGLE DAY! There are so many different ways to cue our children in sessions but I find that these cards are simple and memorable. I use them for children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Articulation Disorders, Language Disorders, and early literacy.

Why Language AND Literacy?

Why Language AND Literacy?

Let’s chat about a possibly controversial topic for some: reading. Why on Earth should an SLP add one more thing to their plate and tackle reading? I am going to share a little bit of my why in this post. Why I think language and literacy go together and how I started treating children with reading deficits.
