Targeting articulation or phonological processes with books is not new. Over the course of this blog series, I am going to give you the blueprints for how to make your own literacy and articulation kits. The fourth book in the series covers a lot of sounds: One Duck Stuck. If you are just landing on this post you may want to head here and read about Lit/Artic kits and what they are.

With this book we can target final k, s blends, counting, sorting, describing and rhyming words.
One Duck Stuck By: Phyllis Root
In this book, the duck is stuck in the muck ( we use playdough) or you can use theraputty. In our clinic the playdough is single-use, so we use a very small size of playdough.
Various creatures in the swamp try to help the duck get out of the muck. As with several other books I have mentioned you can use printed pictures and save some money. However, the kids really enjoy all of the creatures and counting them out. We did use some printed animals when the cost was too high or not a reasonable option.
Here is a list of creatures:
2 Fish
3 Moose ( this set also comes with a Racoon which can be used in the book Move Over Rover)
4 Crickets ( in this bucket of bug you can find crickets and dragonflies)
5 Frogs
6 Skunks
7 Snails
8 Possoms
9 Snakes
10 Dragon flies
All the animals try to help the duck become unstuck. The book is full of repetitive rhyming phrases. Lots of practice with blends, final /k/, and requesting. This another fun activity that the kids will ask for.
If you missed our other lit/artic book choices head back and read them: Good Night Gorilla, Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash, and Move Over Rover.
