I love a game with a thousand pieces. Lots of pieces mean lots of repetitions. Lots of repetitions are great for all types of speech sound disorders. Below I’ll share my top five high repetition, lots of pieces games.

Don’t Break the Ice
I have the old school version. But any iteration of this game is great. I typically have the kids do several repetitions of each word to earn a block. Bonus: use the ice blocks as tactile cues to help with blends, multisyllabic words, or short phrases. My kids almost always want to play again.

Pop up Pirate
In this game, you try to Pop the Pirate out of the barrel but sticking swords in the side of the barrel. Sounds vicious I know but it comes with a lot of swords. Bonus on this one: I yell a little every time he gets shot out of the barrel and I think that’s why the kids love it!

Elefun
In this game, you add butterflies to the elephant’s mouth. A fan inside the elephant’s body will blow the butterflies out of the elephant’s trunk. The kids ( and me too) try to catch the butterflies in a net. Loads of repetitions with this game. Once you go one round the kids really want to play again it is so cute and motivating. Bonus: you have to get up and move to play!

Ball Poppers
Ok, so this one is not a “game”. But it is super motivating. In full disclosure in our clinic, we have a box of about four of these. We have lots of balls to use and I also have the kids make targets out of post-it notes to hang on the wall. We also have to pick up all the balls after the first go-round which gives us a break in the action.

Cars
I know, I know. But would anyone really get through speech without cars? A good clamp track that hooks on any table and a box of cars. Highly motivating and endlessly replayable with multiple variations. Go through all the cars before you pick them up. High repetitions and high fun. Many families have matchbox cars at home that they can easily replicate this activity.
