Boom card, boom learning, boom decks. What is all the fuss about? After being thrust into online therapy and a new version of in-person therapy my lovely co-worker Ciara opened my eyes to this new world of digital speech therapy materials.
I am sure like most you are familiar with Teachers Pay Teachers. Boomlearning is a similar platform where teachers, educators, speech-language pathologists, etc. can make and share activities to target a variety of skills. Boomlearning is basically an online marketplace where you can sell and shop these digital decks.
Why use boom cards? I’ll give a few of my favorite reasons.
- They can be used on a variety of devices. You can access boom cards on your phone, your tablet the computer, and smart boards in the classroom.
2. They don’t take up the space that traditional cards decks and printable materials take up. Space is at a premium, right? My little office is filled up with materials that have become out of date over the years.
3. Boom cards are relatively inexpensive. I don’t feel guilty about splurging on some new or fun decks to use in my sessions.
4. Using the IPAD or tablet is not my first choice for therapy( it is a great tool). However, in light of all the cleaning and extra sanitation, we have undertaken cleaning the tablet is a breeze. The protective cover on the IPAD giving it a quick wipe down is a snap.
5. Teletherapy! Vitrual therapy! These are great digital tools for a new season of therapy.
6. If you travel from classroom to classroom or house to house you have an infinite number of resources at your fingertips!
